Two of the business themes that continually nag at the UK Government are Productivity and Scale Up.

Productivity matters because the UK lags behind all of the G7 on this measure except for Italy – hardly a country whose economy would be seen as a healthy benchmark.

The UK is a great country to start a business and there are now an estimated 5.7 small businesses (SMEs) in the UK.  However, most of these will remain as sole trader businesses. The big growth in revenues and employment comes from the small proportion of these that Scale Up.  Hence the Government’s enthusiasm to remove the barriers around skills and finance that prevent organisations getting bigger.

At the best of times, few small business owners care about what government wants and Brexit has hardly helped the national mood towards politicians.

However … the government is putting its money where its mouth is on these targets and is investing significant funds into Productivity in the next few months.

Delivered through Enterprise Nation, between May and June the Heads Up programme of advice and training offers rolling modules in the four areas of:

  • Sales and marketing
  • Collaboration
  • Time management and business efficiency
  • Accounting and finance

Within each of these themes there will be individual modules introducing attendees to the latest digital tools and software packages that can help them become more productive.

The sessions will be held live in Oxford and London and by webinar for those who cannot make it in person.  All sessions are FREE to attend.

We are delighted that Martin Knowles, a HEART of business member, will be helping to deliver the Sales & Marketing module, supporting Enterprise Nation in Oxford.
